Abstract

The angled physical contact optical connector (is called as the APC connector) that provides the ferrule with an angled endface in which installed an optical fiber for greatly reducing backreflection to the semiconductor laser diode from the endface of the optical fiber. The APC connector is achieved the backreflection of less than −60 dB when a slanted angle is more than 8 degrees.1,2 However, the insertion loss doesn't reduce to lower than 0.32 dB when an air-gap exists on the optical fiber axis zz in connection.3 This airgap has to be eliminated for compatibility for low insertion loss of less than 0.32 dB.
