Air cooled, high repetition rate, eye-safe OPO laser

Abstract

High repetition rate air cooled eye-safe pulse laser is useful for field applications such as laser radar or wire detection system for helicopters. There are some reports describing that Optical Parametric Oscillation (OPO) is useful to acieve high repetition rate eye-safe laser.1 We developed an air cooled small compact eyesafe laser of which wavelength is 1572 nm by means of OPO. The OPO unit and the pump laser of laser diode pumped Nd:YVO4 laser are packaged into a compact case. Its repetition rate is 10 kHz and peak power is about 1.5 kW.
