Abstract
The quantised energy levels of the electromagnetic field produce important effects for the coupled atom-cavity system which is described by the Jaynes- Cummings (JC) model.1 However, genuine quantum spectroscopic features have yet to be observed experimentally in the optical domain; the familiar vacuum Rabi splitting' can be described using a semiclassical approach.2
