Abstract
In the field of communication, it is necessary to pleasure the frequency difference between two lasers whose frequencies are spaced as wide as several terahertz. However, it is difficult to measure such a high frequency difference by conventional heterodyne techniques. To overcome this difficulty, we have proposed an optical-frequency-difference measurement method1 that uses an optical-frequency comb (OFC) generator that generates a precisely spaced comb of frequencies through large-index phase modulation. We have demonstrated OFC generation with a span of 6 THz by using an OFC generator consisting of an electro-optic phase modulator installed within a Fabry-Perot cavity.2
