Abstract

Coherent 2-5 μm mid-IR sources are required in fiberoptic chemical sensors, spectroscopy, industrial process monitoring, atmospheric and environmental monitoring. Desirable source characteristics of room temperature operation, compactness, high efficiency, narrow spectrum, wide and continuous tuning, are not directly met by semiconductor lasers, but can be satisfied by diode pumped DFG1.
