Abstract

Use of Raman scattering has been growing in recent years. One of the applications is in a distributed temperature sensor which uses Raman backscattering of an optical fiber. This sensor consists mainly of a conventional 50/125-μm 0.2-N.A. graded index multimode fiber as the sensing fiber and a 910-nm semiconductor laser as a pulsed light source.
