Abstract
We recently demonstrated that the LiCaAIF6:Cr3+ (Cr:LiCAF) crystal can be operated efficiently as a tunable solid state laser medium when pumped in the laser pumped laser configuration.1 Encouraged by this result, we investigated flashlamp pumping of Cr:LiCAF and measured several of its thermomechanical properties, which can be used to predict the potential performance of this material. We are also developing the growth techniques and conditions required to obtain large single crystal rods. The results appear quite promising.
