Abstract

Erbium-doped fiber amplifiers (EDFA) operating at λ = 1.53 μm are of particular interest for optical communications due to their low insertion loss, broad gain bandwidth and polarization-insensitive gain [l]-[4]. EDFA's have recently gained increasing attention with the first laser-diode pumped operation of these devices in particular at λρ = 1.48 μm pump wavelength [5],[6].
