Abstract

Excimer lasers, due to the short lifetime of their upper lasing level (<10 nsec), require steady-state pumping to produce reasonable optical output energies. However, the high electrical power deposition needed for efficient energy extraction combined with the unstable nature of discharges in electronegative gases makes long-pulse excimer discharge operation difficult to achieve.
