We show that injection locking is a practical way of increasing the power available from single-frequency argon-ion lasers. In the optical domain, injection locking is mainly used for narrowing pulsed lasers, and only a few cw experiments have been reported, all using homogeneously broadened mediums (CO2. dyes, GaAs) or nearly single-mode He-Ne lasers. The efficiency of this technique when applied to argon lasers was not a priori obvious.
