Recently, the nonlinear Fabry-Perot (F.P.) interferometer has been actively studied for optical bistability1 and power limiting2 applications. The basic concept of power limiting in the transmission mode is as follows. The spectral transmission window of the nonlinear F.P. filter is intially tuned to the laser wavelength of interest. When a laser pulse is incident on the filter the optical intensity within the filter changes the refractive index of the nonlinear medium, which thereby detunes the position of the filter transmission window from the laser wavelength.
