Abstract

Metal-clad optical .waveguides have found application in electrooptic and magnetooptic modulators and as polarizers for integrated optics.1 Semi- conductor-clad or positive permittivity waveguides are characterized by high attenuations which have saverely limited their application, although they may be useful for optical control of optical wave propagation.2 Frequency filtering has also been suggested for these semiconductor -clad guides,3 and experimental confirmation of the predicted characteristics will be presented.
