Advances in adaptive optics scanning laser ophthalmoscopy have made it possible to image the living retina with better resolution than ever before, making it possible to see the smallest retinal cells including cones at the foveal center and individual rods. In addition, we have demonstrated the feasibility of safe in vivo two-photon fluorescence imaging, which allows us to explore molecules in the retina that were previously inaccessible in the living eye.
