Abstract
Second-harmonic generation has been observed in thermally poled Na2O-ZnO-TeO2 glasses containing Ag nanoparticles. We have applied the thermal poling at 300°C with a dc voltage of 3.0 kV to tellurite glasses in Ag2O-Na2O-ZnO-TeO2 system. The precipitation of Ag nanoparticles is observed in a region near the anode-side surface of the tellurite glass after the thermal poling. The value of d33 obtained is 0.29 pm/V for the glass sample poled at 300°C with 3 kV for 60 min. It should be noted that the poling temperature, i.e., 300°C, is just below the glass transition temperature; for the tellurite glasses, the thermal poling at around the glass transition temperature is not effective to induce SHG, as reported previously. In addition, we have found an interesting phenomenon that the SH intensity gradually grows as the Ag-containing tellurite glass is continuously irradiated with a Nd:YAG pulsed laser at a wavelength of 1064 nm.
