Abstract

A large and increasing number of optical phenomena and devices are based on propagation in periodic media. These include the Distributed Feedback Laser - the mainstay of today’s optical fiber communication as well as Bragg gratings in fibers used for “adding” and “dropping” different wavelength beam in WDM fiber system.
