Generation of forbidden frequencies in nonlinear photonic crystal microcavities and their applications

Abstract

We investigate the transient response of a nonlinear photonic crystal microcavity to a step-like excitation. The generation of in-gap sidebands via four wave mixing lends itself to a novel wavelength-shifting scheme for ultrafast optical communications.
