Abstract

Two organic dyes (TPA1 and TPA2) containing triphenylamine as the electron donor and cyanoacrylic acid or rhodanine-3-acetic acid as the electron acceptor were synthesized. The absorption spectra, electrochemical and photovoltaic properties of TPA1 and TPA2 dyes were extensively investigated. The overall conversion efficiencies of 2.6% and 1.6% were obtained for DSCs based on TPA1 and TPA2, respectively. The lower efficiency of solar cell based on TPA2 is mainly due to the broken delocalization of the excited state, which affected the electron injection from TPA2 to the conduction band of TiO2.
