Waveguide crossing device is a fundamental building block for isolated propagation of two cross waveguides in silicon photonics. In this work, a genetic algorithm optimized compact silicon waveguide crossing of 5×5 μm2 for fundamental Transverse Electric (TE) mode is designed, fabricated, and tested. A measured insertion loss of 0.1~0.3 dB with a crosstalk of <-35 dB is achieved in such design scheme.
