Review of Spectrally Efficient Optical Communications Using Orbital Angular Momentum Multiplexing

Abstract

We review recent progress in spectrally efficient optical communications using orbital angular momentum (OAM) multiplexing. By delivering multi-carrier multi-level modulation signals (OFDM/OQAM 64-QAM) over polarization multiplexed 22 OAM modes, we demonstrate a free-space transmission link with an ultra-high spectral efficiency of 230 bit/s/Hz.
