Scanning-electron micrograph of a metamaterial polarizer in silicon. This polarizer rotates one linear polarization by 90 degrees while the orthogonal polarization is transmitted undisturbed. Thereby, this polarizer is able to achieve a polarization conversion efficiency of ~74%. The center-to-center spacing between the squares is 400 nm.
