Abstract

A magnetostrictive fiber-optic sensor system employing a thin film of amorphous Fe80B20 alloy coated directly onto the fiber cladding is reported. A novel detection system to facilitate measurement of dc magnetic fields is described, and results presented show the advantages of amorphous alloys compared with nickel for sensing purposes.
