Abstract
By pumping CH3F with a 150-mJ, continuously tunable, multiatmosphere CO2 laser, we have produced ~0.2-mJ far-infrared laser pulses that can be tuned quasi-continuously over ~85% of the range from 220 to 400 μm. The tunable far-infrared laser action results from two-photon (Raman) transitions in the R branch of the CH3F ν3 band.
