Abstract
A novel cavity design for an F ii-center laser is described, which utilizes a pump laser that is polarized orthogonally to the infrared laser. The pump is introduced through a polarization beam splitter, which permits use of a collinear pumping geometry with high coupling efficiency. The laser cavity mirrors have metallic coatings, which produce a cavity with an extremely broad bandwidth.
