Abstract
A hybrid fiber- and bulk-optic Faraday-rotation-based electric current and magnetic field sensor is described. The scheme employs a new orthoconjugating fiber loop mirror to permit interrogation of a remotely located sensor over a conventional single-mode fiber link independent of birefringence perturbations in the link. A Bi-substituted YIG film sensing element gives a sensitivity of 0.45 deg/G over a range of 1 mG to 100 G.
