Induced spatial incoherence and nonlinear effects in Nd:glass amplifiers

Abstract

We develop a model of nonlinear propagation of spatially incoherent beams to simulate recent experiments on Nd:glass amplifiers. It is shown that nonlinear losses when accompanied by an intensity-dependent index are enhanced in the case of incoherent light, and they lower the observed saturation intensity.
