Feedback-enhanced bistability in grating coupling into InSb waveguides

Abstract

We show that the bistability obtained through grating coupling into a waveguide with a diffusive nonlinearity is enhanced in the presence of a second counterpropagating guided-wave beam. An integrated device in which a nonlinear distributed-feedback grating is used to retroreflect the incoupled beam is demonstrated.
