Pulse compression of an induced-phase-modulated weak signal

Abstract

We examine the possibility that the first stage in the pulse compression of a weak pulse can be achieved through its induced phase modulation by a strong pump. The compression ratio for the fiber-and-grating compressor for a weak probe in the presence of a pump is computed. Walk-off effects between the probe and the pump are incorporated into the calculation.
