Abstract
Performance characteristics of a microwave-discharge ArXe waveguide laser are described, including unoptimized efficiencies greater than 0.5%. Experimental results obtained with a wavelength-selective cavity show that high-pressure ArXe systems are capable of operation at 2.03 and 2.6 μm with efficiencies comparable with that normally observed at 1.73 μm. 8-μsec pulse durations are achieved with the use of gas additives, suggesting the feasibility of quasi-cw operation. Pulse-repetition rates exceeding 1 MHz in burst-mode operation are also reported.
