Abstract

Excited-state properties of the laser material Cr3+:Gd3Sc2(GaO4)3 were determined by a photocaloric technique. The excited-state absorption cross section at 650 nm is (3.6 ± 0.6) 10−20 cm2, and the fluorescence quantum efficiency at ambient temperature is (91 ± 1)%.
