Feature Issue of Optics Express

Aids for Color Vision Deficiency

Submissions Open: 1 November 2021

Submission Deadline: 15 April 2022

Optics Express, a Gold Open Access journal, welcomes submissions to a feature issue on "Aids for Color Vision Deficiency."

In the last decade, there has been an increase in the number of contributions from the color vision scientific community on the topic of aids for color vision deficiencies (CVD). The analysis of the efficacy of passive or active aids for subjects with CVD is an open topic and could benefit from new ways of testing their performance. In addition, new active aid designs may arise if the wavelengths of a subject's peak cone sensitivities could be measured quickly and easily, using relatively simple devices, or tests, developed for display on digital video screens.

This feature issue will highlight contributions in this field that could pave the way for a future personalized color space and custom color image enhancement systems for these subjects. Any topic related to improvements regarding the state of the art of CVD aids will be considered.

Topics of interest include, but are not limited to, the following:

  • Comparative analysis of efficacy and efficiency of CVD aids
  • Novel methods of assessment of efficiency for CVD aids
  • Gene therapy for CVD
  • CVD specific color spaces
  • Passive aids
    • Color filters
    • Tunable illumination devices
  • Active aids
    • Recoloration algorithms
    • Wearable AR glasses
    • Custom Color transformations for TV displays
    • Gaming customized adaptations for improving CVD observers' experience

All submissions need to present original, previously unpublished work and will be subject to the normal standards and peer review processes of the journal. The standard Optics Express Article Processing Charges will apply to all published articles and articles will be freely accessible immediately upon publication.

Please prepare manuscripts according to the author instructions for submission to Optics Express and submit through Prism's manuscript submission system, specifying from the drop-down menu that the manuscript is for the feature issue on Aids for Color Vision Deficiency.
