Space-charge influence on the spectra of the ions and electrons formed by laser gas ionization

Abstract

We consider charge interactions in the laser-light focus region while a low-pressure gas or atomic beam is irradiated. The space-charge effects are shown to distort both the energy spectrum and the angular distribution of ions and electrons when a sufficiently large charge density is obtained in the focus region. Charge interactions can be neglected at a charge density less than 1010 cm−3.
