Abstract
The effects of linear absorption, input-beam misalignments, and saturation on soliton emission from a nonlinear waveguide are studied numerically by using the beam-propagation method. The basic phenomenon is found to survive in the presence of these complications. However, in the case of a saturable nonlinearity the solitons become solitary waves.
