Abstract

Controlling the phase-matching condition of four-wave mixing (FWM) using stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) has been experimentally demonstrated, but the full extent of the capabilities of this method has remained unknown. Here we theoretically and numerically investigate these capabilities, considering the SBS and the FWM separately. We show that, with modest optical power, exponential gain is achievable for normal dispersion. The method is limited by SBS-induced power variations and by the need to limit the SBS power levels.
