Lasers as Toda oscillators

Abstract

The Toda oscillator model gives a true description of the intensity fluctuations of a laser. We use this model to study lasers with strongly developed relaxation oscillations. Using a separation of time scales, we focus on the theoretical and experimental investigation of the instantaneous relaxation oscillation frequency and damping rate. As an experimental system, the Nd3+:YVO4 laser is used.
