Abstract

Experimental and numerical results of the dynamics of two-polarization coupling in a nonlinear Bragg reflector are presented. A silicon-on-insulator (SOI) waveguide is used as the model structure. The effects that lattice heating and free-carrier decay have on the dynamics are assessed in real time. A two-polarization pump–probe technique is used to monitor the reflectivity simultaneously during the laser-pulse interaction. In addition, the development of three-terminal optical switches based on two-polarization coupling is discussed.
