Abstract
Second- and higher-order-accurate split-step schemes based on symmetrized propagation-operator techniques are introduced and discussed. These numerical procedures are capable of solving the so-called generalized nonlinear Schrödinger equations that arise in the analysis of the paraxial propagation of transverse electric fields in nonlinear media in the regime of optical frequencies.
