Abstract
The optogalvanic spectrum of tantalum in the 6200–5600-Å range has been observed with a cw dye laser and a tantalum hollow cathode. With a single-frequency dye laser as the excitation source, we performed high-resolution Doppler-limited laser optogalvanic spectroscopic experiments in a tantalum–argon hollow-cathode discharge lamp to study the hyperfine structure of four allowed transitions of neutral 181Ta. The corresponding hyperfine coupling constants A and B for eight levels were derived from the observed spectra. The A and B constants for the levels a4P5/2, a6D9/2,
, and
are being reported for the first time to our knowledge.
