Abstract

This paper examines rotationally asymmetrical geodesic optical waveguide lenses and develops a ray-tracing method for the lenses. The effects of asymmetry on the optical properties are estimated by this method in the case of a symmetrical lens distorted in the optical axis direction. It is proved that focal length or field curvature can be modified by the asymmetry for the same depression depth. This is expected to increase design flexibility and simplify design specifications.
