Abstract

In support of their recent publication [ J. Opt. Soc. Am. A 7, 211 ( 1990)], the authors show that the strict differential relation between the fringe shift and the deflection function holds also in classical Mach–Zehnder interferometers with air reference arms. Additionally, a simplified approximate formula for the interferometric data reduction is proposed.
