Influence of polarization aberrations on point images

Abstract

In this paper, we derive Maréchal-type approximations for the unpolarized imaging of points in the presence of small retardation and diattenuation. As the representation of such polarization aberrations is ambiguous in general, we show the independence of the results on choices and suggest modified definitions.
