Abstract
The effect of apodization on the imaging performance of a coherent aberrated optical system has been investigated both theoretically and experimentally. Performance is quantified in terms of parameters appropriate for the canonical objects: an edge, a slit, and two closely spaced points. The results indicate that apodization is useful in improving selected aspects of the imaging performance of an aberrated optical system.
