Abstract

In response to the comments by Skigin and Depine [J. Opt. Soc. Am A 25, 1165 (2008)] on our previous paper [J. Opt. Soc. Am A 24, 1647 (2007)], here we clarify some of the issues raised by them. We show that the method presented in our previous paper is very efficient for practical applications. Our formulation casts the scattering matrix in the form of a banded matrix. The banded matrix can be efficiently solved and requires only the Gaussian elimination method, hence no matrix inversion, leading to very fast and stable simulations.
