Abstract
A variety of spatial-filtering tasks can be performed with an incoherent source and various source and pupil masks {a technique proposed by Rhodes and Koizumi [ Proceedings of the Tenth International Optical Computing Conference ( Institute of Electrical and Electronics Engineers, New York, 1983), p. 32] for image enhancement}. A simple method of analyzing such systems is described and used to qualify the images obtained with a few different mask pairs. Some examples of edge extraction and characterization are given.
