Abstract
We give a quite comprehensive representation of the spatial behavior of the Wolf effect for Gaussian Schell-model beams, based on isoshift lines and transverse shift profiles. This representation immediately accounts for many effects previously noted on the redshift and the blueshift of Gaussian Schell-model beams in propagation. The maximum blueshift, which occurs on the axis, and the maximum redshift are also calculated. This analysis can be extended to other classes of beams that undergo the same spectral variations.
