Abstract
The common characteristics and the relationship that must be satisfied by all the quasi-monochromatic planar sources that generate both identical intensity and identical intensity correlation at the output plane of a general optical system have been determined. The sources have been represented by their second-order and fourth-order correlation functions. Also, a general procedure for obtaining the common part of these sources from intensity-correlation data is given. The calculations involved in such a method may be notably simplified by applying a certain mathematical property, which is proved in this work.
