Abstract

An integral representation technique is described for calculating the modal properties of multilayered guides. Its equations are tested by comparison with results that can be derived by an alternative method for the special case of a thin ring guide. Numerical results are presented for general multilayered guides as a function of cladding thickness and of core and cladding shapes.
