Abstract

The spectrum of Cu i in the region 1650–1140 Å has been investigated in absorption. The column of Cu i vapor was obtained by a flash-pyrolysis technique, i.e., irradiating the material with a strong flux of light or by an induction-heated furnace. The principal series 3d10 4s 2S–3d10 np2 P° has been followed up to n =31. Eight additional series of lines, 3d10 4s 2S–3d9 4s np, nf converging to 3d9 4s3D, 1D of Cu ii have been observed. Several levels are strongly autoionized and the parameter of the autoionized resonances has been determined, together with the continuum absorption.
