Diagrammatic representation for amplitude transmittance and reflectance of planar layered media

Abstract

New analytical expressions are given for the amplitude transmittance and reflectance for a planar multilayer dielectric region. A shorthand prescription using diagrams is presented, which easily permits the explicit representation of all the terms in the expressions for these amplitudes. The diagrammatic method is illustrated by a system consisting of three layers.
