Abstract
The scattered electromagnetic field is computed from a cylindrically symmetric lens. The lens is inhomogeneous in the radial direction with the index of refraction possessing a line infinity on the axis of symmetry. At the very-high-frequency limit, the leading terms of the asymptotic expansion for the back-scattered field are obtained by considering the Watson transformation of the exact solution. Geometrical optics can be used reliably to predict the back-scattered field as contrasted to the case of a point singularity in the index of refraction.
