Effect of Film-Grain Noise on the Performance of Holographic Memory

Abstract

In this paper, the film-grain noise present in the images formed from a hologram is assumed to be a gaussian random process. The noise model for the film-grain noise is used to calculate the error probabilities and storage capacity of the holographic memory that uses the photographic material as its storage medium. The analytical result is applied to evaluate the storage capacity of the Kodak 649F photographic emulsion in the holographic-memory application.
